Yeosu is often known for its gorgeous ocean views and scrumptious seafood, but it also has some decent art museums and attractions. One such place is Yeosu Artland. I was cautious about visiting here because it had some negative reviews on Tripadvisor but I really enjoyed my time at Yeosu Artland despite the scorching weather.

How to get there
Yeosu is accessible via bus (Yeosu Bus Terminal) and train (Yeosu Expo Station). After arriving in Yeosu, you can catch a taxi or bus to the Artland Resort.
Unfortunately, the only bus (the 100) that goes directly there is infrequent, but you can catch other buses like the 111, 115 and 109 to get to Artland. There’s about a 20-minute walk from the bus stop to Artland, though, if you catch these buses.

Best time to visit
Spring or Autumn, and maybe winter are great times to visit Yeosu Artland Culture & Resort. It’s okay to visit Artland in the summertime but it’s often too hot to enjoy many of the activities comfortably there.
Activities at Yeosu Artland
1. Media Art Sculpture Park
The Media Art Sculpture Park is an outdoor park full of Instagram worthy-sculptures, including the famous Midas’ Hand. There are also other activities there such as the Ocean Skywalk and Extreme Swing. When I visited, entrance to the Midas’s hand and the Skywalk was included in the ticket, but that could have been because I was a Jeollanam-do resident.
The Sculpture Park is quite small but you can still take many cute pictures there. It’s also quite hilly so wear appropriate shoes and prepare for a short hike.
2. Midas’s Hand
Midas’s Hand is a stunning rock sculpture. Although you may want to start taking photos straight away, I advise going straight to the Midas’s Hand ticket booth, which is near the only café in the Sculpture Park. Here you’ll get a free ticket to take a photo on Midas’s Hand. You can take as many photos as you want near the bottom of the hand but all visitors must get a ticket to climb the stairs to the top.
It takes 90 minutes on average for your number to be called once you collect your ticket, because Midas’s Hand is such a popular attraction, but you can explore the whole park as well as try activities such as the Ocean Skywalk and Extreme Swing. Or you can just relax in the cafe.
Tip: There is no visual representation of the queue numbers for Midas’s Hand – a staff member just calls out the numbers in Korean, so if you don’t know how to understand Korean numbers then this could be a little bit difficult for you.
It may be worth telling the announcer to make a note that you’re a foreigner and can’t speak Korean because they may be able to speak English for you when they call your number.
3. Ocean Skywalk
The Ocean Skywalk is a fun activity to try out. You walk on planks of wood from one point to another while taking in wonderful scenic views of Yeosu. Then you do a short zipline back to the starting point. You can have a friend document your walk from below in the sculpture park or they can accompany you on the skywalk.
If you do the former option, and you and your friend only have one ticket between you guys you need to explain that you’re going separately.
4. Extreme Swing
After your thrilling adventure on the Skywalk, you can head over to the Swing but you have to pay extra (3000 won) for it. It looks kind of lame when you see others on it but once you get on it yourself, it’s quite fun. It feels like a rollercoaster and you get to see more of Yeosu’s beautiful scenery. The only downside is that it lasts about 1 minute, which is far too short.
Tip: You should wear trousers when doing the skywalk. If you’re a girl and want to wear a dress for Midas’ hand, then you should bring a change of clothes. I suggest doing the skywalk and the swing activity first when wearing trousers like jeans or sweatpants etc. and then changing into a dress closer to the time you want to take pictures on Midas’ hand. There are bathrooms inside the sculpture park where you can do this.
Also, carry some water with you if you don’t want to buy some at the café.
5. Go-karting
This experience seems aimed at children but it’s open to everyone and it looks like an exciting experience, especially if you haven’t done go-karting before.
6. Zipline
Enjoy spectacular views of Yeosu as you glide down this zipline. It’s not too extreme as it’s only 50m high, but it’s a lot more fun than the Zipline that’s a part of the Ocean Skywalk.
7. Infinity Pool
There’s also an infinity pool. I never tried this option because it’s only open to guests who stay at the resort overnight but it looks cool.
8. AR 3D Trick Art Museum
After visiting the Media Art Sculpture Park, you can do a variety of activities such as visiting the 3d trick art museum. I did this option and thought it was fun. You can leave heavy backpacks or items in the lockers near the 3d museum entrance.
There’s also a lot to do at the museum and it sometimes seems endless. My favourite exhibits were the natural landscapes, the Thomas the Tank Engine part and the Egyptian room. Certain pieces of art come to life when you use the museum app and you can take pictures and film videos of the lifelike once they’ve come to life. Download the app by searching ‘여수예술랜드’ in the Play Store or App Store.

Thoughts
I spent about 6 hours at Artland and visited the Media Art Sculpture Park where I experienced the Ocean Skywalk, Midas’s Hand and the Extreme Swing. I then finished the day by having fun at the AR Trick Art Museum and ate a quick lunch, so bear that in mind when planning a trip here.
If you get to Artland early then I think it’s possible to do all the activities there (minus the Infinity Pool) in one day but this may be exhausting. For a more relaxed day, it’s better to visit the Media Art Sculpture Park and one or two more attractions.
Conclusion
Yeosu Artland provides a fun day out for families, friends, and solo travellers. I hope you enjoy the many activities the attraction has to offer.
